Metaphysics

Metaphysics

Under the domain of metaphysics the basic denominator is the search for; truth, purpose, and meaning in life.  Questions which cannot be isolated from the  spiritual realm and are deeply interwoven into one’s spiritual life, one’s identity and one one obtains fulfillment in life.  There are many paths humans may travel on the way to finding truth.

Metaphysics comes from joining two Greek words together, literally mean “after or behind or among [the study of] the natural”. Meta, meaning over and beyond – and physics. Thus, the combination means over and beyond physics. It has been suggested that the term might have been coined by a first century CE editor who assembled various small selections of Aristotle’s works into the treatise we now know by the name Metaphysics

Metaphysics is the scientific study of; consciousness, existence, and reality. It explores and endeavors to answer questions related to; who we are, where we came from, where are we going, is there another realm of beings, and how we fit into the Grand Scheme of things. Whenever someone asks about the nature of how something works, he or she is delving into the realm of metaphysics. If you ever gazed up at a star filled night sky and pondered the universe, you have engaged in exploring metaphysical principles. So too if you have stood on a mountain top watching the landscape cascade far into the distance, and been awestruck of the majesty of the earth.

Metaphysics studies questions related to what it is for something to exist and what types of existence there are.  There is an intangible energetic realm both related to celestial beings (Spirit, Creator, God,  Universal intelligence, Angels, Souls/spirits …) and communication (gut hunches, intuition, coincidences, serendipity, and other messages).

There is an overlap between things that are ‘New Age’ and that which is Metaphysical: a branch of philosophy that studies the first principles of being, identity and change, space and time, causality, necessity and possibility. It includes questions about the nature of consciousness and the relationship between mind and matter.  Metaphysical concepts builds on the strength of other faiths/religions (i.e. Judeo-Christian, Buddhism, indigenious practices,…) with less dogma and doctrine and a worldview that is more open and natural.

Topics of metaphysical investigation include existence, objects and their properties, space and time, cause and effect, and possibility. Metaphysics is considered one of the four main branches of philosophy, along with epistemology, logic, and ethics.
