Health Care

Health Care

Under the realm of metaphysics we explore the whole human (mind-body-spirit).  Therefore when it comes to supporting the health of an individual we do so on all levels.  We do not compartmentalize or isolate the parts of the body. We recognize the inter-dependency of the isolated parts (cells, tissues, organs, systems) on each other.

The consequence is that we prioritize health care modalities that recognize the interconnectedness of the body and focus on preventative care, in an non-invasive manner, by strengthening the body.  Lifestyle (exercise, diet, stress levels, attitude/perspective) is the foundation for health. We believe disease recovery and prevention involved education of the individual(patient) and their caregivers. The body has it’s own innate self-healing system that can be harnessed and utilized to restore the body/mind to health.

We endorse the following healing modalities, and utilize their treatment modalities as a first line of defence.

  • Naturopathic Medicine / Orthomolecular Medicine
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Energy Psychology (EFT, EMDR, TFT, Reconnection…)
  • Laying-of-hands (Chiropractic, Massage, Osteopathy, Reiki,…)

Regarding Metaphysics and Allopathic medicine. We are not opposed or against all allopathic (pharmacy & surgery) medicine. However we recognize the limitations of a modality that treats symptoms, and wait until we have exhausted all alternative options before utilizing allopathic treatment that can result in unnecessary side effects. There have been various cases of ‘spontaneous remission’ or other aspects which has defied the allopathic understanding of the body. We believe ‘God’s’ hand can intravene and thus there is more at play than what meets the allopathically trained eye. The strength of the allopathic model is in post injury trauma care stemming from accidents (i.e. cuts, scrapes, broken bones).

“The Doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease”

Thomas A. Edison (1847 – 1931)

“One of the first duties of the physician is to educate the masses not to take medicine”

William Osler MD ~ Father of Modern Medicine. (1849 – 1919)

Numerous individuals over the last 2,500 years have advocated for a holistic approach to health & healing. Particularly as it pertains
to treating the healthy body. Science and Medicine perpetually evolves. What was once deemed appropriate is now questioned if not outright scorned and/or deemed barbaric (blood letting, electric shock, lobotomies). Due to this perpetual evolution of science we advocate for treatments that are as gentle to the body as possible and nothing that has lasting effects and/or the potential to create other health problems. Given that there are many side effects that come about through the use of pharmaceuticals, we seek to delay their implementation unless truly ill and to avoid their use where possible or when an alternate treatment modality is available.

Hippocratic Oath  The Oath written by Hippocrates, (460–370 BC), is still held sacred by some today  – The four basic principles of medical ethics is.

  1. To avoid harm
  2. To benefit
  3. Individual autonomy
  4. Justice.

Highlights of the oath below:

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug.

I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” … Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember [to] treat a human being, whose illness may affect the person’s family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can.

“Drink water from the spring where horses drink. The horse will never drink bad water. Lay your bed where the cat sleeps. Eat the fruit that has been touched by a worm. Boldly pick the mushroom on which the insects sit. Plant the tree where the mole digs. Build your house where the snake sits to warm itself. Dig your fountain where the birds hide from the heat. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time with the birds – you will reap all of the days’ golden grains. Eat more green – you will have strong legs and a resistant heart, like the beings of the forest. Swim often and you will feel on earth like the fish in the water. Look at the sky as often as possible and your thoughts will become light and clear. Be quiet a lot, speak little – and silence will come in your heart, and your spirit will be calm and full of peace.”
Saint Seraphim of Sarov

The Total Health Show and the Whole Life Expo were held annually in Toronto up until 2020.  The show covers a broad spectrum of  holistic/alternative health and spiritual principles through their  booths and speakers that addressed health and wellness from a broad cross section of modalities. (i.e. crystals, dowsing, hypnosis, energy modalities, naturopaths, homeopaths ..)  Kallista is a long time attendee and prior presenter and met some of her adherents there.
