A Course in Miracles
The Course in Miracles is a prominent New Age / Metaphysical text. It grew in popularity following its publication in the mid 1970’s and saw a spike of in sales following Marianne Williamson’s launch of her Best seller ‘A Return to Love’ in the early 1990’s. The Course has been translated into over two dozen different languages, with millions of copies sold.
A few premises of the Course.
- The primary premise of The Course is that ” Only Love is Real”
- The thought systems that we choose from is either Fear or Love.
- When putting the CIM into practice we extend Love (compassion/Peace) & Forgiveness
- We are to be obedient to the Voice of God.
- One creates a peaceful world through
Peace of mind with our own thoughts, which can then be extended outward. (L 34)
Seeing the positive (peace) in situations around us. - Meaningless (L 12) We give attributes to things outside of ourselves and inject meaning to that which is happening, often labeling it good/bad or correct/incorrect, effective/ ineffective. Meaningless is the absence of our projections.
The meaningless is outside you, and the meaningful is within (L 4) - We end suffering by ‘Resting in God’ (L 109) – This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is.
- One can receive healing through A Course in Miracles by recognizing that energy is behind everything. Thus by shifting the energy, one shifts one’s physical state (ie illness) as well as one’s mental state (mood) and one’s belief system, (perceptions) which in turn shifts how we think about and observe the world as well as how it manifests around us. We put the spotlight on different aspects. The energy that propels illness/unsickness/wellness stems from thought form and our emotions. Just as Energy Psychology modalities [ie EFTEmotional Freedom Technique] or ‘Faith healing’ enables one to shift one’s beliefs/emotions so too does CIM enable one to shift their perceptions. As one clears resistance. The extent to which the mind is open enables one to invite into their world processes that will facilitate healing; be it the power of a placebo, nutrition, energy modalities, alternative treatments, or allopathic procedures.
- The Ego is the aspect of yourself that obscures the real Truth, and is the aspect that suffers.
- The main functions of the ego is to instill fear (guilt/shame) & Isolation /separation
- The Holy Spirit is the name of your direct connection to God.
“The heart of God is the hand of miracles.”
